Pokemon Red and Blue | Review by Gambit

#26 Pokemon Red and Blue Review Feature

Hello gamers and welcome to the close out of week 15.

Capturing the #26 Spot…

Pokemon Logo

As handheld games go, I can’t think of one that has made more of an impact on gaming in general. Pokemon Red and Blue took the gaming world by storm. I don’t care if you’re 5 or 50… If someone shows you a picture of Pikachu, you know exactly who he is. I don’t believe there’s another handheld game that has punctured pop culture… Or culture in general the way that Pokemon has. Red and Blue what where it all started.

Pocket Monsters!

Pokemon, or Pocket Monsters in Japan, was released in 1996… Nearly 20 years ago! There are people who are able to vote that have never lived in a world without Pokemon … That’s right, if I have to feel old, I’m bringing you down with me. Anyway… The basics: Pokemon was an RPG made for the Gameboy in 1996 and was met with astounding success. You played as an unnamed character that was tasked to collect all 150 of different species of Pokemon that existed within the world. As you travelled the land collecting these odd creatures you were harassed by Team Rocket and your (also unnamed) rival. Ultimately, your goal was to become a Pokemon Master and to do that you needed to defeat “The Elite Four” which was, in all honesty, not an easy task.

As straight forward as that “storyline” was, Pokemon Red and Blue made for hours upon hours of entertainment. I would wager that the stock prices in batteries went through the roof with the release of this behemoth.

So Simple, So Addicting

Pokemon Red and Blue I like shorts
I admit, I still have my old Gameboy… And guess what the only surviving game in my collection is. Yup, you guessed it; Pokemon: Red… Yes, Red! You Blue, Squirtle fans can kiss it! To this day, when I find myself with a bit of spare time, I’ll reach over and battle with my beloved Charizard and MewTwo. I’ve beat this game time and time again, I don’t see any reason to stop now. 5 out of 5 from me.
